GUY LOMBARDO MEMORIAL TROPHY

Secondary School Big Band Style

Guy Lombardo was born in London in 1902, one of seven children of a musically minded family. He gave his first concert at age 12. Later, he and his brothers began playing gigs while still in school. Guy Lombardo became a popular band leader who added the phrase "the sweetest music this side of heaven" to the vernacular.

He was known for his traditional New Year's Eve program which ran from 1919 through 1976. Many people remember Guy Lombardo and his Royal Canadians performing "Auld Lang Syne" on New Year 's Eve. In addition to his music, Mr. Lombardo was an avid speed-boat racer.
