In 1966, Ian was appointed principal oboe of the Victoria Symphony and subsequently held the position of principal oboe with the Regina Symphony Orchestra, the Colorado Music Festival, and Orchestra London Canada. He has performed with many other orchestras and music festivals throughout Canada and the U.S., and has been featured as a recitalist and chamber musician on CBC Records and Centredisc. Ian was a founding member of The Aeolian Winds, with whom he toured and recorded extensively throughout Canada and in Taiwan.
