Charlotte Dettwiler is a recipient of the Hampton Roads 2015 Outstanding Music Educator Award in recognition of her quality contributions and growth in Public School programs and area communities. She earned graduate degrees from the University of Western Ontario and Averett University in Master of Education and an Honors B.Mus at Wilfrid Laurier University. As a maestro, cellist and full-time educator, she brings many years of performing, recording and international teaching experience as a member of her communities.
Ms. Dettwiler is a cellist with the Cambridge Symphony Orchestra, Waterloo Chamber Players, and the Heartwood Ensemble. She is a former core cellist of 20 seasons with Symphonicity, Virginia; Trio Elegance and Spumoni Strings bringing her wealth of performing and teaching experience to the stage and classroom. National and International CD releases include Dean Shostak on Glass Armonica, "Music of the Grand Salon" and "Made in the Americas" with the Millennium Symphony. Concert tours include Prague, Vienna, Olomouc, Guantanamo Bay, New York, London, Paris, Nashville, and Toronto.
She served during her membership with the Virginia American String Teachers Association as voted secretary for six years. Serving on the board for VASTA represents orchestra directors on a state level and at national conferences. Ms. Dettwiler has served as an adjudicator/judge for numerous festivals in Norfolk, Virginia Beach, Newport News, and the Ontario Music Festival Association as well as a six-time invited guest conductor for the All-City Orchestra Festivals. Her students participating/competing in festivals have received superior ratings and top placements in orchestras.
