Gordon Cleland is the Principal Cellist of the Niagara Symphony Orchestra, the Southern Ontario Lyric Opera Orchestra and the cellist in the MD3 Piano Trio. He is a regularly featured artist for the Encore! Series at Brock University. He has performed as a soloist and chamber musician on CBC FM and TV5, the international French television network. He freelances as an orchestral musician.
Gordon has a strong commitment to music education as a faculty member at Brock University where he teaches cello and string techniques and at Ridley College. He is an instructor with Suzuki Niagara and the Niagara Youth Orchestra and runs a private studio in the Niagara Region. He has been a featured performer for the Concertino Program of Jeunesses musicales, whose artists are chosen for their pedagogical skills and their ability to communicate with young musicians.
Gordon has adjudicated at numerous Festivals across Canada and at MusicFest. Gordon is also an organist and is the Music Director at Trinity Presbyterian Church in Hamilton. Gordon's musical education started in London, Ontario, and he completed his studies with a Bachelor of Music and a Master of Music degrees from Boston University. His principal teachers were George Neikrug, Gisela Depkat and Walter Joachim.
