
Dr. Jonathan Rowsell grew up in St. John’s, Newfoundland, where he studied both
tuba performance and composition at Memorial University of Newfoundland. In 2018,
he graduated from the University of Toronto with a Doctor of Musical Arts in tuba
performance. Jonathan is the Musician-in-Residence for brass at Laurier University’s
Faculty of Music where he teaches tuba and euphonium, coaches chamber music, and
coordinates the Winds, Brass, and Percussion department. He is a proud Eastman
Performing Artist and performs throughout Ontario with various groups including the
Stratford Symphony, Trillium Brass Quintet, London Citadel Band, Hannaford Street
Silver Band, Stratford Festival, London Symphonia, Hamilton Philharmonic,
Kitchener Waterloo Symphony, and the National Ballet of Canada Orchestra. In
addition, Jonathan is an enthusiastic composer and arranger. Many of his works have
been performed and recorded in Canada and abroad. His music has been published by
SP&S, Experianza Music, Cimarron Music Press, Maple Leaf Brass, and BrookWright
Music.
